Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation Awards Community Grants
Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation recently awarded community grants to Pioneer Regional School Corporation Food Service and the Cass County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The purpose of the LMHF community grants is to support the health and wellness of our community.
Pioneer Schools Food Service is the recipient of a grant that will give all students access to free fresh fruits and vegetables.
Terry Farrer RD is pleased to provide healthy food choices to the students. "The fresh fruits and vegetables program provides students with nutritious snacks and at the same time introduces them to food that they may not regularly eat. It is important that the students become familiar with the USDA Dietary Guidelines which suggest filling your plate with half vegetables and fruit at each meal," said Terry Farrer RD.
The Cass County Chapter of the American Red Cross received a grant from the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation to be used to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) for use in the local community.
Rocky Buffum, Executive Director for the American Red Cross in Cass County, is very excited the local chapter was selected as a recipient for this grant. "In a cardiac emergency, every minute defibrillation is delayed reduces your chance of survival by ten percent," said Buffum.
"These funds will make an onsite AED available at the many public events the Red Cross provides first aid booth coverage for each year." In the past these events have included local festivals such as Arts on the Avenue, Taste of Cass County, Reading Railroad’s Day in the Park and many others.
Buffum emphasizes this project would not be possible without the support of the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation is a 501c3 with the mission to provide direction and financial support to activities that promote health and wellness in our community. Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation serves as the fundraising arm of Logansport Memorial Hospital. The Foundation fulfills its mission by encouraging annual fund gifts, by actively seeking major and planned gifts and by managing a variety of enjoyable special events.
The mission of the Pioneer Regional School Corporation Food Service is "food service…serving education everyday."
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
